The first thing that strikes you when you, when you walk into Brother Baba Budan, is the unusual decor. If you haven't been there before, you can't help but be struck by the image of tens of chairs suspended high from the ceiling - a visual metaphor for where their coffee will take you perhaps. Brother Baba Budan was a 17th Century Sufi who smuggled coffee beans out of Mocha in Yemen; it is from here that coffee is believed to have spread to the rest of the world. But what makes Brother Baba Budan stand out most is its superb coffee. BBB is the little brother of Mark Dundon's South Melbourne institution St Ali, from whence their coffee comes. As well as having one of the few Clover's in Melbourne [perfect for tasting single origin coffees], the Brother pumps out shots of espresso, as near to perfection as possible, time after time. It's not often that inner city workers have the chance to sample great coffee - but here's your chance to sample the best!
Brilliant coffee, cosy atmosphere, will definitely return
Cool spot, great coffee and service - I will return!
Just a really good coffee, full of love and the pastries are just to die for..
They were unable to make a hot coffee - it was merely warm. The cafe was overcrowded and the food tasted as if it was cooked by a 10 year old.
Hmm, since Mark has sold up & moved on things have dropped a bit, one day great, the next - average.
Laid back crew working in a face paced enviro; can't go wrong. Keep up the awesome work guys. Love the rists that keep us guessing.
For those of you wishing you could make it to St. Ali in your lunch break, look no further. St. Ali's baby brother has recently opened in Lt Bourke st and manages to squeeze all the elements of that top rating cafe into a 15 seater hole in the wall.
BBB is my caffeine equivalent of an iron lung - weekend doesn't officially start before a piccolo with a ristretto chaser and a half kilo of Blend.X to go. Really diggin' the Clover through the Winter months too. Paul & Jo
HUGE HUGE fan!!!.. We went to Melbourne for a weekend and headed to Degraves, our waiter told us to go and have a look at this cafe, as soon as we saw it, we fell in love, coffee amazing - and the service was outstanding. The lady that was chatting to us knew her stuff, it was great to find this little treasure. And to top it off, they had an Atomic. Love this place. Kasey
