For anyone who is hanging out for a superb, real coffee, in a real cafe, this is the place. Really, they totally get it and have completely nailed it. Probably the best coffee we have ever had, anywhere. We are dreadful coffee snobs, have hung out in coffee shops and all types of restaurants, all over. So hopefully this is useful. We are partial to the odd snack on hot chips but only if they are superb (otherwise it is a waste of the calories isn't it?). The lemony, herbish, hot "crisps" are sublime - the only place in Toowoomba where it is worth ordering hot chips at all... Nice use of herb-infused oils and lovely green veges and leaves, and real italian bread enhance the brekky. It is well worth going back to try every item on the lunch and dinner menu - our favourites are the pork belly dish with yummy bits including lemon curd, the flakey salmon salad and the rather unusual duck and raisin curry, but we haven't tried everything. The cakes are also worth the calories - fresh and individually made by the chef.
Now our regular cafe as it is the best coffee in town. Just try getting a better espresso, or if you prefer with milk, try their long macchiato, both just great coffees, made well. Have just about tried all the food on the menu, with nothing we have not liked - quality ingredients, matched and cooked really well. Might look simple on the menu, but wait until you try it. Hope it keeps going as well as it has to date, because it is too hard to find such a great cafe that you keep wanting to go back to.
The best coffee I have ever had, whether in Australia or outside of it. The food is incredibly moreish, and the chef is unafraid to put his own touch on well-loved classics - seasonings are generous, and flavours are rich. The memory of how good the food actually was will linger with you. The cafe itself is a welcoming, homely place, the staff are friendly and the service is excellent. Their passion for quality shines through in everything that they do. Will definitely become a regular!
An absolutely brilliant cup of coffee! I ordered the flat white and got a hearty, robustly flavoured coffee with minimal bitterness. The milk was frothed to create a beautiful sense of silky creaminess...together it was possibly the best coffee I can remember having. The food was creative but comfortably familar. Well cooked, and tasty, generating a sense of luxury. The furniture and ornaments in the cafe' created an imaginative, stimulating environment. Upstairs has more comfy furniture, and a great place for a meeting or a cosy chat. I like the outdoor tables too, excellent for my favourite habit of people watching! Definetly recommending it to my friends and family!
I'm always skeptical of new cafes, so after around a month of trading, decided to go try this one out. I walked in, saw a brand new Mazzer Robur and Mazzer Major sitting on the front counter. Boxes ticked there for them not skimping. The staff were very friendly, and the downstairs section is very nicely fitted out. Upstairs (where I actually ate) is a little bit..older and not as well decked out, but is very homely. Ordering the coffee, I wasn't sure what to expect. I had heard a few people mention that the coffees were "small". I ordered a short macchiato, and the bacon and eggs (poached, cooked perfectly - nice runny yolks) with a wonderful tomato relish. The short macchiato was fantastic. All the cups are brand new ACF cups. The coffee is a perfect temperature, and extracted amazingly well. Others in the group I was in appreciate good coffee, and were impressed with the coffee/milk ratio in the cups (yes, they are smaller than the 12 oz buckets you get at a lot of cafes, but I like that, and you can order a "bowl" if you prefer). I will continue to go to this cafe, and will of course have to keep an eye on them. With all new equipment, any issues with cleanliness and maintenance won't show up yet, so I'll watch with interest. They seem to have a passion for coffee, and simple food done well, so I doubt it will go downhill anytime soon.
